Ameena Rojee is a London-based artist. She is very intrigued in people, culture and on the land we live on. Ameena visited my class to discuss her projects and what she was up to after graduating till present day - it was an amazing experience listening to her career development and it was very inspirational. Ameena loves to engage with her photography, she always aims to try to participate and not only observe this gives astonishing results in her journey photography. She assigned a task to go on a photo walk and there was no set theme; this was to see what kind of photographic style I have and like. I showed her my gallery of photos and discussed them, I also told her I was very anxious going out in public to photograph houses - she encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone more and recommended me to photography existing photographs that I have seen before as I also like the same view and it is worth trying to capture the same photograph, to make it diverse I could develop the photograph in Photoshop to change the photograph style.
MY AIMLESS JOURNEY:
I was set an assignment to simply take a walk - From my start point I went on an aimless wander around my neighbourhood. I set off from my home turning at random points and walked slowly to take my time to see what I should photograph as I had no theme in mind; usually I like photographing buildings and sometimes interesting organic plants. I experimented with various angles from straight ahead to angular and down below shots. On my walk I learnt how to observe my surroundings more clearly as I was walking at a slow pace. Often I would leave my camera to hang around my neck so my hands were free so I would look around first and use my eyes to frame where I would want to photograph and then I would pick up my camera to look through the viewfinder and photograph the place. I was feeling nervous to take photos around my neighbourhood as I was taking photos of peoples home and their plants and I was crouching on the floor to get an angle.. but it was okay in the end as there was not many people around. I stepped out of my comfort zone and decided to use manual focus in some photographs and it was not very hard and it focused on what I wanted such as, in between the metal gates.
